Salish Tribe Woven Shellfish Basket

Found at a Pacific Northwest estate sale, this is confirmed by the previous owner to be an antique Salish Tribe hand-woven basket. Baskets like these were often used to collect oysters, clams, and other mollusks. 

Traditionally, the women in Salish tribes managed and harvested coastal shellfish populations. This antique is a rare find that holds deep cultural meaning in relation to America's Pacific Northwest shellfish and indigenous heritage.
